Home recording has entered a new era. Digital Recording on home computers has brought a powerful studio to the average household. The Main differences between your home recording studio and a commercial studio are:
- Recording Software / Processing power - Most is within reach of the average enthusiast
- Microphone Quality - Condenser mikes have become more affordable
- Sound Proofing - unwanted sounds are the bane of recording enthusiasts
- Staff - Lets not underestimate the experience of a professional staff
Home recording setups are becoming more and more like their commercial counterparts. Sitting right here in the computer I am typing this on, I have a 48 track 24/96 Recording device, with 4 inputs and 6 outputs. This gives me plenty of inputs to record myself, and lay down tracks one at a time until I am satisfied with a song, and then master it, and burn it to CD or distribute it on the internet.
So you have a guitar and want to start recording yourself? How do you do it? Whats it going to cost?
The good news is, It won't cost you much to get your feet wet. If you have an electric, it's just a matter of getting a way to plug it into your computer.
