The M-Audio MicroTrack is a rugged high-fidelity mobile 2-channel digital recorder that records WAV and MP3 files to CompactFlash or microdrives? It is perfect for everything from professional field recording to corporate meetings, training, education and worship. Connect MicroTrack 24/96 to a PC or Mac via USB and simply drag and drop recordings to your computer for immediate editing or Web posting. Power derives from a lithium-ion battery, and the unit can recharge via the computer?s USB connection or included USB power adapter. The MicroTrack 24/96 combines quality beyond that of DAT recording with the convenience and cost-effectiveness of personal digital recorders for the ultimate solution in mobile recording.

I Initially purchased this unit to take to class, and record the lectures. It provided just enough battery power to get through those marathon 2hr 45 minute classes. The microphone that it comes with does a superb job for this type of recording. Of course as with any microphone, the closer you are to the source the better.

I was so impressed by this little device, that i started using it for field recording. Taking it on the subway, i got some great ambient recordings. It's portability and no fuss interface makes this an amazing little recorder.

This can also be hooked up to a mixer at a live gig, and you can easily record your mix. Granted it's only two channels, but still provides you with good feedback after the gig.

Cons:

The only complaint on this unit that I have is the Battery. It doens't last as long as i would like, and can be temperamental when charging. The unit must be turned OFF to charge the battery. It will sit there all day on, and look like it is charging, but when you go to use it.... nothing...

Overall I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
